Champion Jockey Richard Dunwoody is one of Britain’s most successful jockeys. He dominated English National Hunt racing in the 80’s and the 90s, winning the Big Three races - Grand National, The Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. When he hung up his racing silks at the age of 35 due to injury in 1999, he had won a record 1,699 races and endured 672 falls. He is best known for his partnership with the legendary Desert Orchid on whom he won seven races and was awarded the MBE for services to horse racing. Since hanging up his boots, Richard has focused his determination on various expeditions including a 350-mile cross-country ski race to the Magnetic North Pole and entered the history books by conquering the Geographic South Pole by a hazardous and extremely gruelling route that had only previously been attempted, unsuccessfully, by Sir Ernest Shackleton in 1914/15.
Richard is in great demand as a motivational speaker, sharing with audiences the attitude, commitment and focus needed to get to the top. Richard proves that the skills needed to succeed in sport - and expeditions such as the race to the Magnetic North Pole and the Geographic South Pole - are equally applicable to today’s competitive business environment.
