Good fresh food has always been a part of Loyd's life, having grown up in a little fishing town just outside Boston. He came to Britain to study at the London School of Economics in 1975. He started his showbiz career as a singer with punk band Jet Bronx and The Forbidden. He then found his calling and became journalist, working as a restaurant critic as well on other topics, for publications such as The Sunday Times and Harpers & Queen. While he was earning a reputation as a food writer, Loyd admits that at this stage he hadn't learnt to cook himself. After 13 years in editorial, Loyd then moved into television presenting, working on the programmes such as Masterchef.
He now works on various projects and has his own cooking sauces and soups.
