Murray Walker commentated on Formula 1 from 1949 up until his retirement in 2001 - in fact it wasn't even called Formula 1 when he first started! As well as covering most F1 races he has also done commentary for many other types of motor sport for the BBC including BTCC and Rallycross. He is a motor sports enthusiast. He is also prone to spouting rubbish in the heat of the moment in spite of his vast experience of commentating for Grand Prix racing. According to those who've met him, he's a nice bloke too. The 2001 United States Grand Prix was Murray Walker’s final commentary. A truly sad moment for all his fans.
In his own words since his retirement Murray said, “ What I will miss most is the sense of belonging to a community of friends who work and travel together in the formula one business,We're all in this business as competitors in many ways, but we're also bound together by a sense of common purpose and underlying friendship.
