Alex was born in Scotland and educated in Glasgow and then Liverpool, at a time when Merseyside was the centre of the world! Teaching in an inner city school in the late 60's gave him a good grounding in the development of his sense of humour. However, flying aeroplanes has been his passion since he first took the controls of a Piper Cherokee in the 1970's He is a fully qualified flying instructor with experience spanning the last two decades and many thousands of hours. Over this time Alex and his students have been involved in scores of hilarious incidents and entertaining episodes. In his after dinner talk he presents the comical side of learning to fly an aeroplane. Highlights of his talk are the, free flying lessons! the illustrated examples of amusing incidents and the details of the actual progress towards a licence. The flying lessons involve the entire party, usually on their feet participating, as well as responding in groups, to technical terms! The technical content is pitched appropriately, depending on the audience, but overall the talk is always hilarious.
